November meeting. Our next meeting is this coming Friday, 15 November at 7.30pm, when Adrienne Grinyer and Ingrid Walden, coming fully costumed as ‘Tudor Maydes’, will tell us about ‘A Tudor Christmas’.

December meeting. Please remember that this meeting is one week earlier than usual.   On Friday 13 December Chris Upton (always an interesting speaker) will be talking about  ‘Entertainment in the 18th Century.’   This will be followed by mince pies and other seasonal fayre. An ideal opportunity to spread the word and introduce someone else to our interesting talks and sociable meetings.

AGM and Supper.  As previously announced, our 26th AGM and Supper will now be held on Friday 21 March 2014, beginning at 7.00pm (and not as scheduled on your programme card).  Friday, 17 January 2014 will now be a normal meeting evening, when Deborah Hayter will be telling us about “The 17th Century Village” and asking “Who was in charge?”

Advance notice.  On Saturday 12 April at 2.00pm there will be an open meeting of Southam’s Cardall Collection, featuring a Feldon Archaeology Society talk and exhibition on Burton Dassett at the Graham Adams Centre, Southam.  There will be a small entrance fee to cover costs.

The Kineton Camera Club has invited K&DLHG members and their friends to their very special evening presentation Tuesday, 17 September 2013 at 7.30pm in Kineton Village Hall when Angie Butler will speak on the work of Frank Wild, an Edwardian polar explorer with Shackleton, illustrated by some amazing contemporary photography.  “Based on Angie Butler’s seven year research for her book The Quest for Frank Wild, a biography of one of the greatest polar explorers of all time, unearthed original and in some cases never before seen photographs of the Edwardian Heroic Age of Exploration”.

This quest was the subject of a fascinating television documentary a couple of years ago, and last September Angie spoke about it in a memorable talk to the Kineton Regent Club.  Highly recommended!

The cost for non Camera Club Members will be £2 to include coffee and biscuits .

Newsletter May 2013

To all members on the K&DLHG mailing list

Next meeting.  On Friday 17 May 2013 Martin Way will be returning to Kineton to tell us about “Heavy Horse Trappings.”  Martin Way came two years ago and, in full period costume, entertained us with “Glimmer in the Dark – a celebration of art and craftsmanship in Anglo-Saxon England.”

Annual General Meeting and Supper.  Before the talk our chairman, David Freke, will be reporting on the proposal to change the date and time of this event from Friday 17 January at 7.30pm to Friday 21 March 2014 at 7.00pm, and will be seeking the views of members on the format of the social part of the evening.   Your committee has initiated these changes in the hope that the weather will be better in March than it has been in recent years in January, and that the supper menu (and cost) can be adapted to members’ preferences, for example: would you prefer one or two courses, meat and / or fish, a more limited range of desserts?

Summer Outings. Details of the four outings planned for the Summer months have already been circulated in newsletters, and tickets went on sale at the April meeting.  As the meeting on 17 May is our last indoor meeting until September, please ensure that you have reserved (and paid for) your place(s) before you leave the Hall on Friday.
